IntroThe peaceful land of Sosaria has fallen upon dark times. All manner of evil creatures have sprung up like termites and are infesting the land. Lord British, Sosaria's soverign ruler, has sent out a call for Heroes to fight back and restore his kingdom. You have answered this call.

Player Notes{Notes to the Player} 1. This is a VERY long scenario. Expect it to take about 12-15 months game time, maybe longer if you want to experience everything. 2. Some stacks are set to keep growing weekly. Be warned that 4000 imps may not be much of a challenge, but 4000 Azure Dragons is overwhelming. Therefore, do not waste too much time. Splitting forces may be a good idea. 3. This map is not a perfect translation of Ultima III. I took many liberties to make the map more interesting and fun to play. This includes combining a few elements of other Ultimas in the series. 4. If the proliferation of imps on this map bothers you, but you don't want to lose potential EXP's by letting them flee - suggest you change the settings to quick combat, but don't forget to set it back when you need to fight more difficult stacks. 5. This map was tested by the mapmaker only a couple of times to the completion of the scenario, but may still have flaws not noticed. Send your comments to [email protected] and I will mention you in a credits section in subsequent versions. 6. If you seem to be missing a key artifact at times, try visiting the quest guard or seer hut again - sometimes you will receive a hint. Report 1Lord British has promised to keep you as informed as he is by his scouts regarding the happenings in Sosaria. His first news to you is quite bleak. It appears that nearly every town of Sosaria, save that of Britain and the Main Castle, has been taken by hostile forces.

RumorsLord British mentions that there are other sources of information that are less reliable, but could be valuable, nonetheless. Rumors that are passed by word of mouth through the taverns of Sosaria should also be closely listened to.

Report 2British's scouts report that the peaceful druids of Yew have succumbed to invaders. However, the invasion has weakened them a bit and a quick strike may reclaim Yew for the Kingdom.

Report 3Scouts report that the Twin Montors in the south have declared allegiance to Exodus and are building up for war. This is already a formidable opponent. Reclaiming Yew will be the only way to balance power.

Report 4The formally peaceful Wizards of Moon, are now also hostile to British's throne. If there is any luck left in Sosaria, they might attempt a power struggle with the Montors before setting sight on Britain.

Report 5The mysterious city of Dawn has been taken over by strange elemental creatures. They have engineered it so that no one can enter the city except themselves. Unless a means to reverse this can be found, they may prove to be our undoing.

Report 6Terrible news! Undead have taken over the town of Devil Guard and are using its resources to spawn all manner of these foul creatures. If they break through the Garrison that holds them back, the moongates will be open to them and all Sosaria will soon reek of these creatures.

Report 7Bad news, but not nearly as bad: The town of Death Gulch has been taken by Overlords. Fortunately, it is relatively isolated and may not be a threat for sometime. However, if they start building boats, these foul underworld creatures may be at our very door.

Report 8Barbarians have taken over the Village of Grey, but what is worse is that they have entered into a treaty with the Overlords of Death Gulch. This is serious, but to their disadvantage, they are separated by great distance.

Report 9The island city of Fawn has fallen to Beast Masters. By some magical means, they share a connection to Dawn, and have entered an alliance. Luckily, it can't get much worse.

Derelict ShipA derelict merchant ship was recently towed into port. No crewmen were aboard, alive or dead. Everyone had vanished, as if plucked by some evil force off the boat. The only thing found was a word written in blood on the deck: {E X O D U S}.

Encouraging NewsEncouraging News: Scouts report that all enemy towns are growing slowly. The Undead army at Devil Guard is not yet strong enough to challenge the Garrison that holds them back. Ironically, the garrison consists of Undead, but their mindless devotion to protecting the garrison prevents them from joining Devil Guard.

More NewsMore news from your scouts: It appears that the Twin Montors have engaged battle with the Elementalists of Dawn. Excellent, this might keep them weak enough for reclaiming. Unfortunately, there has still been no entrance found for Dawn.

Montor's Forces AdvancingScouts report Montor forces are advancing toward our Garrison. It would be best to recall our forces from exploring the dungeons and get ready for batlle.

MercuryLord British invites you to his table for dinner for a little R&R break in the campaign. After dinner, discussion ensues and you inquire as to the lack of Alchemist labs in this part of Sosaria. He mentions that they were shut down by Sosarian Environmentalists due to possible health hazards. However, he does recall saving a small stockpile in the Castle basement.

WhirlpoolsScouts have spotted a ship manned by undead surfacing out of the whirlpool near Castle British. Looks like the undead have found a way around the garrison. This could spell trouble.

Very Bad NewsScouts confirm the Worst: All towns are now allied against you and Lord British. It seems that claiming the Town of Yew triggered this alliance. Sosaria is in great peril. In response Lord British opens the remaining war coffers and levies some additional war taxes - pleading with citizens to voluntarily contribute as they are able to the war effort. The response is good, but probably not enough to tip the scales. Nonetheless - use it wisely, use it with all the hopes and prayers of Sosaria behind you!

Imps!By now you have undoubtedly noticed a pattern: Each and every week that passes brings a fresh spawning of Imps and Familiars. Exodus, whatever it is, must be out of control because these creatures have no allegiance. They seem, on occasion, willing to join any army, but clearly they are so incompetent as to only be a drain on resources. Maybe your enemies will be foolish enough to employ them.

AdviceTonight you sit down to a meal with Lord British for a bit of a break from the chaos of this campaign. During the meal you discuss the problem of fighting a multi-front war against a united enemy. One possible solution might be to focus on one faction at a time. Lord British recommends going after the strongest faction first. On the other hand, eliminating the weaker one first might be much easier. The decision is yours. LB will stand with you either way. It's good to have the support of the King on your side.

Progress ReportIt's been 5 months now since this great War of the Exodus started. {Progress Report:} It is clear that there is a two-part goal to this campaign: 1) Unify Sosaria under the flag of Lord British 2) Conquer Castle Exodus in the Southwest Ocean. It is also apparent that Goal #2 can only be accomplished by finding the Mark of the Snake somewhere in Sosaria's dungeons.

British AdviceLord British visits your troops today and gives a rousing speech. Later, you and he discuss more strategy. Assuming that Sosaria has not been fully united under the Flag of Lord British, you both agree that splitting troops may be the most efficient method. One faction for unifying Sosaria, and another for exploring the Dungeons. After one month, if this doesn't work out then troops might be recombined to fight the general war and save exploration for another time. But Exodus continues to grow as time goes on...

Month 8{Lord British} visits with you briefly. 200 days have passed since you answered the call to free Sosaria from the tyranny of Exodus. Much progress has been made, and I do believe the tide of battle is now in our favor. Now, as you quest deeper into the dungeons of Sosaria, be careful as the creatures have not been idle below. They will be ready and strong. Take the best troops with you and be vigiliant. A grateful nation awaits its Hero!

Year{Lord British} holds a celebration in your honor today. It has been exactly 1 year since this great conflict began. Much has been accomplished and Sosarian morale is higher than ever. The Roads are clear of vile creatures (except some scattered Imps), and each town of Sosaria flies the flag of the Soverign Crown of Lord British. The only resistance left is in the underground, and that is well on its way to being squashed. The last great holdout is Castle Exodus - which rose out of the sea over a year ago, and now has a terrible army of demons and devils guarding it. If anyone is capable of leading Sosaria's armies to victory it is you, {Avatar}. I am most grateful, as are all of my people. {Quest ON!}

2 Years???A weary Lord British greets you. Avatar, I'll get straight to the point. It's been 2 years since this war began. The people of Sosaria are not happy. They have lost too many men, Angels, and beasts. If you cannot win this war in 6 months, I fear that there may be a revolt. Now, I know you have made a lot of progress, but my subjects are fickle. They think war is a quick business that requires little sacrifice. They even claim that they were never in favor of this war to begin with. Many even think that we should not invade Exodus, and should respect them as a soverign nation. Some even claim that Exodus is not the real enemy. I do not sympathize with these sentiments; but if we can bring an end to this war, then this spirit of discontent will evaporate. Please try your best Avatar. I am counting on you.
