Intro2

The time has come, he giggles gleefully--like some twisted Rumpelstiltskin. A thousand years ago your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather borrowed seven gold pieces from me and put up your home as collateral. Well, the debt needs to be paid and--interest rates being what they are--the current sum comes to one million, six-hundred and seventy-three thousand, forty-one. Please pay in cash... And he extends his hand.
Intro3

After sputtering (and staining your favorite tunic with a great deal of your cold beverage), you explain that currently you are a bit short on funds. Perhaps he could give you another few hundred years... After all, he's waited a thousand years already. What's a century more or less?
Intro4

He glares at you menacingly; his expression much as you would imagine it would be if he were listening to a recording of that wicked singing sprite, K'thy lee of Giffordshire. But he knows killing you isn't the way to get paid, so he agrees to another 12 months, as long as you are willing to bump the sum up to 2 million even.

A sudden scream from the far end of the courtyard signals the end of another of your peasants, but also earns you 12 gold pieces for having bet wisely.

Your eyes cross in confusion. And your head starts to pound. You were never one for complicated math. But that awful imp is still standing there, tapping his foot, awaiting an answer. And then your thoughts turn to Treasure Island, that mythical place just across the sea where it is rumored the earth bubbles with gold. Hmm... Shouldn't be too hard to gather a few million over there--maybe even gather a couple extra million for yourself.

You agree to the imp's terms and shake his hand (after he spits into his palm, which is more than a bit disgusting as he has been rubbing his perpetually runny nose nonstop). Then, with a loud pop, Regis of Philben disappears, leaving you to start planning an excursion to Treasure Island.
