  • Intro
    Sigh. No one understands. They'd all prefer to sit back and watch the world go round. Well, YOU are going out into the world and YOU will be the one who will spin the world for them to watch. 'Cohlen the Dreamer' they call you, with sky high aspirations and idealism. You'll show them! Right?
  • intro
    Your pet griffin, Ealeo, has kindly consented to accompany you after gentle persuasion. Of course, the scar along your arm must have been done in affection. After all, Ealeo would NEVER hurt you, would he? And all the shrieks he let out last night were probably of anticipation at such happy news that he'd accompany you all around the world and back again. ahh... dear Ealeo. You reach out to pat him, dodging his lashing talons and beak. Must be hungry, poor dear.

    Niuren wonders if he will ever see the light of day again. He asks the swamp people if they knew any exit to the world above. They say that all the exits have been cordoned off by treacherous mountains and dense growth. As Niuren groans they tell him of a recent earthquake which created a huge crack in the mountains, there may be an exit at the end... As Niuren begins to rejoice, they inform him that a magical barrier appeared and blocked entrance into this crack. Niuren begins to groan again...

    A message arrives from the sky with the name 'Gnatennew' written on the front. With shaking hands you open the note. It reads: I have taken Erisel as prisoner in my own castle. You will never see her again. HAHAHA! You clench your fist, crumpling the note in the process, and vow that your will find this evil sorceror and destroy him.

    Gnatennew comes to you in a dream (or nightmare). He says, As an added precaution, I have placed a magical barricade around my castle and the only thing that will open this barricade are the three necromantic artifacts; the Amulet of the Undertaker, the Vampire's Cowl, and the Dead Man's Boots. I have scattered them across the world and you have no chance of finding them, so abandon this puny campaign of yours and go back home. Oh yes, you can't go back can you? Some ancient spirits are guarding your town. HAHAHAHA!!

    You send scouts out to find out where these three artifacts are. You eagerly await their return. You also hire scribes to look for information on this evil sorceror Gnatennew.

    One scout returns, saying he has found the Amulet of Undertaker. Asking him why he didn't return with it he said he only saw it in the distance. He tells you this, The amulet is on this very island! But is only accessible by water and is guarded by a border guard. It is directly south of Earlitu and is on the outskirts of a big lake.

    Your hired scholars have found quite a bit of information on Gnatennew. One of them presents you with a piece of paper with a whole lot of writing on it:

    Gnatennew was quite a bright child when he was young. Always asking not what, but HOW and WHY, things are done a certain way. He would often come up with theories and test them out with little experiments. He found out quite a lot this way. From his experience of working around and getting solutions to problems, he stumbled across sorcery accidentally.

    He was trying to get a stone suspended in the air without any support. Working late into the night, he came up with a theory on how light and the pressures of air worked. (Scribe's note: it is too long to go into any details, suffice to say that it was a brilliant theory.) He got all the necessary compounds and after working on it for two days, he managed to get the stone to levitate 3 feet off the ground.

    He had begun his trek to great sorcery! He.... You sigh and fold the paper up, it was too long to read in one sitting. You have things to do, armies to command and Ealeo to feed. Oh drat what time is it? It's pass Ealeo's meal time! You hope he won't be that bad tempered when you go to feed him...

    Ecneralc Ele comes back with the translation. He tells you the writings mean that wise and important people are common, and that only the special few, those whose fates are written in the stars, can see this place. He asks you if you know where 'this place' refered to. You tell him no. He shrugs, then a gleam comes into his eye. Now to extract my payment, he says, extending his arm. You roll your eyes and pour a few coins into his fist.

    You ponder over what Ecneralc told you. Why has your fate been written in the stars? What are you destined for? Why are you, as of now, building an army? To rescue Erisel? To... No! a voice in your head resounds. A voice, which you know, is of an external, yet supernatural source. Your fate, and army, were brought together, like a carpenter and his tools, so that you would have the necessary instruments to smite and destroy Gnatennew. Fail us not... fail us not... fail us not... You vow to destroy the Plague of the World. With such supernatural intervention, you cannot lose. Can you? Well, in any case, you will have to know your opponent to defeat him, so you will finish reading that sheet of paper tomorrow.

    Eurgh, the paper does look long. Maybe you'll finish reading it tomorrow, or in a week's time? Whatever it is, you begin to read, starting where you left off the last time: He had begun his trek to great sorcery! His day began to revolve around his pen and paper as he drew theories and hypothesi on this newly discovered talent of his. Little did he know that the branch of sorcery opened to him was an evil one, not totally evil, but subtle and quite innocent looking.

    Slowly, bad thoughts began to swim into his head. They were small, but the concerted effect started to take a toll on his bearing and character. Little things which in the past made him feel guilty about, like killing a spider, he was indifferent to now. Putting his theories behind him, he decided it was time for a more practical test. No one can tell which came first, his madness, or his great power. What is known is that he finished that day totally mad, and totally powerful.

    You open the paper to continue with the story. Or documentary. Or whatever. His weaknesses are few and minor (as discussed further down) *you make a mental note of that* but his strengths lies quite obviously in the destructive realms of the Fire Magic. With his command over fire magic, he made the land he walked a barren lava plain. All life perished with the sound of his footstep, the permeance of evil which seeps into the ground at his passing... only lava and spewing volcanoes fed on his magic and burst forth with added vigor.

    He summoned forth beings of fire, all things red and evil, to do his bidding. As of now, he has a whole regiment of imps and devils and other Creatures of the Pit at his command. He has forgotten all compassion and love and passion except for that of power. It is said that his lust for power is so strong, he will stop at nothing short of taking over the world to fulfill his desires. It is also said that, should he not succeed, the pressure of it all will surely kill him. That is his only weakness and the only way anyone will be able to defeat him: by depriving him of the previlege to take over the world.

    Ealeo makes a sound in his throat. Oh yes! It's his feeding time again. You fold the paper up and go to feed him, wary of his beak, claws and bad temper...

    You search for the paper to continue reading again. After looking frantically in your pockets for five minutes, the truth begins to dawn upon you: you have lost the paper! ARRGGH! And you are distant lands, not near the scribes at all, to ask them for another copy. Guess you'll have to do without anymore information. Serves you right for being so careless :-P Ealeo seems to agree with me, the narrator. He is sticking out his bird-tongue at you. :->
  • Vampire's Cowl
    Another scout returns with the good news that he has discovered the location of the Vampire's Cowl. It is only accessable by boat and is south-west of the Fortress town, Ungmoniyrt. In order to get a boat in those regions, one must summon a boat as there is no other way to get a boat there. The only way to summon a boat is by getting the corresponding spell scroll guarded by yet another border guard.

    A scout returns with news: he has found out, with the aid of a seer, that there is a grail in this area. Though the obelisks are unreachable, he says you will be able to find the grail because no matter where it is buried, be it in a volcano or a barren wasteland, plants and trees will always grow around it.
  • Dead Man's Boots
    Your final scout comes back with a worried look on his face. He informs you that a rumour has been circulating around that a pair of boots have been put into the Dragon King's unwilling possesion by Gnatennew. Going to investigate, he has discovered that the pair of boots is indeed the Dead Man's Boots.

I charge you with the responsibility of ending his life as that act will allow the lands to grow fertile again. Here, this is the key unlock the barrier, as it drains the barrier of all magic and magic is what the barrier is constructed of. With that, the old man hobbles away. You gape at him with your mouth open. That was abrupt, you think, heading towards the barrier.

But that skeleton in the cave? you start to say. Was my friend Nahc Mas. Not many people know that he went out too, your bedraggled father sighs. Your eyes brim with tears as you hug your father. Never in your whole life have you been so happy. You tell him so and he beams. Of course, there was the time you set fire to your mother's skirt. Or the time you tripped the village elder 'accidentally'. Or the time you got drunk in the tavern and had fun (and other things) with... what's her name again? You decide to keep all this to yourself. The celebrations go on well into the night, and by morning, you finish telling your father why you are here. Ahhh. Love can be a powerful persuader, he says sagely, nodding his head.

One of your men comes forward and gives you a necklace, saying, This might help against the fight with the witch. Please keep it Cohlen. You thank him, but even though you can feel a slight magical interference emanating from the necklace, you will need to find greater magical resistance before attacking the witch.

I have been sent to ask you why you came here. The Wizards are a curious lot. I have come to seek the Ring of Infinite Gems, as it belongs to my fiance and Gnatennew has hidden it somewhere. The Ring of Infinite Gems? I only know of two. One belongs to the Lohingu family and the other resides at the edge of the world. Edge of the world? How do I get there? I suggest you go for the Lohingu's one instead. The edge of the world lies beneath Gnatennew's lair and is a very dangerous place. Unfortunately for me, my fiance is the Lohingu who, or did, own the ring. This is bad news. Gnatennew converts everything he steals into magical energy. That ring is most certainly lost now. You will have to go for the one at the edge of the world. Be careful, as it is a very dangerous journey. As he turns to leave, he catches sight of Ealeo. His eyes widen and he is about to say something but stops. You look at Ealeo and see him staring at the old man. The old man bows, though more in Ealeo's direction you note, and flies back into the castle.
