  • Astral
    It is all out war between the Necropoli and the Infernos. Ash is its first victim. Astral becomes aware of this. Consulting all the signs and portents he discovers the person to handle this situation is Jenn. Astral smiles and dispatches a letter to Jenn. He is not surprised this time to find the Powers That Be have chosen her. She proved herself in battle and proved her loyalty to her cause. But what will she think of this cause?! Jenn is no longer a lowly cleric. She leads her order and she leads the army. General Jenn, or as her troops affectionately call her, Gen Jenn.
  • Jenn
    Jenn's chief scribe knocks on her door. Yes? May I enter M'Lady? Of course, Wordsworth. What is it? A message for you from The Grand High Wizard! Astral? What could he want? She reads the letter: Gather your troops. I will be contacting you soon. Well obviously it is to be war. Who? Why?
  • Astral's message
    Astral paths to Jenn: You received my message? Ash lies in a deep trance cast upon her by a necromancer. While in this trance she is powerless. Her legions of devils are now running amok all over the country side. We have to get them under control. The infernos are on our side in this. They will do all they can. However, they also have the necromancers to battle. As do we. Most importantly, you have to find the Vial of Lifeblood and Ring of Vitality to make the Elixir of Life. When you have it, take it to my tower. My wizards will enhance it and teleport it to me. I will be at Damned Nation with Ash. Oh, we will require the ring of your order to complete that. What! That ring has saved my life many times. I can't just give it up. I'm sure they will give you another. There is another problem. While in this trance, Ash can not control her aging. She IS 114 you know. She is growing older every day. If you don't hurry, she will die of old age. Use any devils you can catch to help with the battles. No! Jenn is outraged. She remembers all the troops she lost because of Ash. Now Astral wants to save her?! Why don't we just kill off the devils and leave Ash to her fate? There are many reasons, Jenn. Many indeed! As you well know there are more devils in this world daily. We need Ash to help control them. Also, we can't beat the necromancers alone. They are much too strong and gaining strength even as we debate this. There is a mild rebuke in Astral's voice. He knew he was going to be forced to explain to Jenn. He knew he would have to win her to this cause. But he IS The Grand High Wizard, and not accustomed to being questioned. In a lower voice he adds: Besides, she once was my pupil. He goes on in even a more hushed tone. She once was a cleric like you. Jenn is completely startled and torn inside. A sharp chill runs down her spine. If Ash was a cleric and Astral's pupil, how could she become the demoniac she is? Could this happen to her? Why? What happened! I don't know, Jenn. I just don't know! I wish I did. The only person who does know is Ash, if even she does. Be warned Jenn, never stray from The Light. There is one more very good reason to fight on Ash's side. You become a demoniac by choice. The necromancers give you no choice. If you had to be one or the other, which would you choose? A demon, as much in control of your fate as anyone? Or a creation of the necromancers, an undead slave for eternity, or until someone put you out of your misery? Jenn thought the battles she had fought had hardened her and fear but a small annoyance. She learns she is still capable of great fear indeed. An icy chill covers her and once again her knees go weak. She has loads of questions, but now is not the time. Anyway, does anyone have the answers? She thinks not. OK, Astral. I'll do the best I can! I had better start now. It would be best to train everyone in my underground center before turning them loose in the cold cruel world. Hmmm, probably could use some more training myself. Jenn can't help puzzling over one thing. If Ash is 114 years old and Astral's pupil, how old is Astral?
  • Jenn's speech
    Jenn addresses her Angels: I must warn you in the upcoming battles you may be required to fight along side devils. NO WAY!!!! The Angels revolt. Fight beside devils? How could she even possibly consider such a thing! I assume then you won't mind seeing me as a member of the undead??? *Big Groan* Gen Jenn, you don't leave us much choice do you? Isn't there some other way than to use devils? None that I know. If you think of a way, let me know!
  • Astral
    Astral paths: The seers have *seen* where the Vial of Lifeblood is. A necromancer named Albatross has it. They, uh, are detaining him for us. Ha! Holding him for ransom is more like it! They have a whole series of tasks they want completed before they will release him to us. Start with the seer in front of my tower. Don't expect much help from them though. For whatever reason, they are not being very co-operative. That, however is not the worst part. No one seems to know where the Ring of Vitality is!
  • War costs
    Jenn knows this will be a costly war. She decided to bank some funds with the dwarves for the interest.
  • Fight
    Every night in camp it is the same thing. The camp sounds like a hoard of Panthers fighting. Jenn has concluded angels and devils don't need sleep. She sleeps with a pillow over her head.
  • Ash
    Ash floats above her entranced body. Looking down she see herself aging. Helpless, so helpless! Trapped in this body. Useless and aging and soon to be gone. She cries silent tears of frustration and sadness. A demoniac should never ask what they did to deserve their fate she thinks, but in this case, she can't help it. How could this have happened to her? There is always someone more powerful! That's why she took that necklace, to lessen her vulnerability. Now, look. The one she took it from, her old friend and mentor? He is now the one trying to save her! And Jenn! How hard her troops tried to stop that cleric. Killing so many of the cleric's men. Now she is trying to save us all! My devils! Look at them running around like crazed fiends. Where is the discipline I taught them! Where is their loyalty? They should be protecting me, not out like children playing hooky from school. She weeps unseen and unseeable tears. Bitter tears. She wills her mind to the void and re-enters her body.
  • warning
    Oh, Jenn! Astral projects. Do hurry, not only is Ash getting older by the day, but also I'm having to pay the guard dragons since she can't. Are they ever expensive! Then too, the necromancers are growing stronger at a VERY fast rate!
  • levy
    Jenn and Astral decide it will be necessary to levy a tax to help pay for the dragons to defend Damned Nation. The people are unhappy about being taxed to pay for Ash's dragons. However, their total loyalty to Jenn and The Grand High Wizard, means the taxes will be paid. Still, a lot of grumbling will be heard!
  • Fight II
    Finally a real fight breaks out in the camp. The devils are bamping all over and throwing fireballs. The angels are busy resurrecting their fallen comrades. Jenn approaches an angel. What is going on?! EVERYONE STOP! Everyone does. Now just what is this about? He told me where to go, says one angel. And I don't think he meant Chole's place! What were you doing? We were just trying to convince them of the error of their ways! DON'T!! Just leave them alone. They are no happier to fight along side you than you are to fight beside them. Just sleep on opposite sides of the camp at night, OK? Not another word to them. Humph! They should be honored to fight with us. Everyone else always is. You have heard my orders. Things are quieter after that.
  • Sorsha
    Jenn sends a message to Sorsha: Welcome sister. Your help is needed. As I am sure you have gathered, we are at war with the necromancers! Ask Aine for all the details. Glad to have you. PS: don't eat the basilisk. He is out mascot. Darn! I was looking forward to basilisk steak tonight. I guess it is ground gorgon again.
  • Fight III
    Jenn discovers it was those sneaky zealots, pushing the angels to act, that set off last night's riot. She deals with them firmly. Ferocious loyalty to their leader, whomever that might be, is their nature. They hear and obey.
  • Moandor
    Astral paths: Beware! One called Moandor is about to make his presence felt! He is very dangerous. He is almost as dangerous as Albatross.
  • Ash
    Ash looks once more at her rapidly deteriorating body. Anger and frustration fill her soul. Jenn, she says, please help me! Be careful though, Albatross is incredibly strong. I see help for you at the beginning of next month. She looks at her poor body again and sighs. I think I can hang on that long. Jenn, I wish....well what is past is past, Ash says sadly.
  • Jenn
    Jenn's skin begins to crawl. Someone, or something, she can't see is near! Then she relaxes. It is Ash! She feels Ash trying to tell her something. She wonders at this, then the feeling is gone. She doesn't know why, but she feels things are going to get better.
  • Taxes
    Taxes are paid. *Grumble, Grumble, Grumble* *Grumble, Grumble, Grumble*
  • Dragon Pay
    The dragons demand their pay from Astral. He pays them from a distance.
  • interest
    The dwarves send the interest payment.
  • Spell
    Astral paths: I have been casting my own anti-aging spell on Ash, but it is not as good as hers. I haven't managed to stop the aging. I have slowed it down some. Still, do hurry, time is running out and things aren't going to get much better.
