A struggle for power in Malta has caused three factions to arise. To further complicate things, Gozo is rebelling and the Turks have landed at Marsaxlokk in southeastern Malta. The only way to unite the Maltese seems to be by acquiring the Angelic Alliance. Go out and conquer Malta, general!

    • Сообщение: It's been a while since you've truly plundered the churches in the area surrounding Marsaxlokk, so you decide to do it today. You might not become particularly popular among the locals, but with the wealth of the church, they should be able to afford paying an additional tax - of course your tax collectors bring along several demonic bodyguards just in case any priest should decide not to pay the tax. Your men bring back some resources, along with a couple of Christian priests and nuns that were unwilling to surrender their valuables. Hopefully they will be more cooperative in their new function as torture victims.

The event itself was reasonably calm compared to some other village festas. Instead of all the bands competing to make the best performance (and on occasions just the most noise...), it was dominated by musicians performing Ghana, the Maltese folk music for male voices.

Christians say they believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Since you are aiming at conquering this particular building, you might say you're taking it for the Fire, the Sins, and the Hellish Spirits. Hey! That would be a nice joke to tell one of the archers, if any of them should be unfortunate enough to survive the battle (unfortunate as they'll be subjected to torture immediately so you can gain more information about the islands).

While Rabat is unprotected, the walls of Mdina are another example of brilliant construction, done with defence in mind. To all sides except south - where Rabat is - the walls stand way above ground level. Inside Mdina, the narrow streets among tall buildings can easily shelter you from the sun. The town was also constructed this way to confuse invaders in case they managed to get past the walls - while the locals would know exactly where the streets led, someone unfamiliar with the city could easily become lost. The most prominent building in the city is the Cathedral, which is dedicated to both St. Paul and St. Peter. Mdina was previously known as the Citta Notabile - the Noble City. This is due to the fact that Mdina was a favoured residence of the Maltese aristocracy. Some of the ancient noble families still live in Mdina. Mdina was also the seat of the local council of the Maltese - the universitа - during the period when the Knights of St. John ruled the islands. Nowadays, the city is called the Silent City. During the great siege in 1565, the Turks initially ignored this ancient fortress city, going straight for the Knights' headquarters to the north. After several annoying raids by the Mdina cavalry, and after a disappointingly slow progress, however, the turkish leaders decided to deal with Mdina. They expected a garrison with very few soldiers, but when they arrived, they found the walls manned by lots of soldiers. Instead of taking on Mdina, the turkish leaders decided to turn back and continue the attack on the cities in the north. A humiliating blow to the morale of the soldiers. In fact, there were only few soldiers in Mdina, but the city's commander had ordered every man and woman in town to get into a uniform and take place at the walls. And it had exactly the effect he had hoped for.

    • Сообщение: Lots of people are moving in and out of Valletta's city gate. Valletta is the capital of Malta as well as the center for commerce. It was constructed in the aftermath of the Great Siege of 1565, in which the Turks had used the Sceberras peninsula to bombard the Three Cities across the Grand Harbour. It was named after Grandmaster Jean Parisot de la Valette, who led the knights and Maltese during the Great Siege. Sadly, la Valette died before his new city was completed, but he became its first citizen when he was buried below the newly constructed Our Lady of Victory church. Later, when St. Paul's Cathedral had been completed, la Valette was transferred to this church. The suburb of Floriana with its many beautiful gardens lies to the south. The Grand Harbour lies to the east, but sadly, all of the shipyards in this area are closed until the conflict is over. Across Marsamxett Harbour to the west, you can see Malta's largest city, Sliema, and its suburbs. To the east, the view over the former capital of the knights, Vittoriosa, and its neighbouring cities is even more beautiful. After the successful defence of Malta in 1565, gifts came in from all around Europe. A great deal of it was spent on the new city, allowing a beautiful town to rise in a place where there had hardly been a peasant cottage 10 years earlier. It didn't hurt that the Pope sent his own master architect, Francesco Laparelli, either. He later went back, but his Maltese apprentice Gerolamo Cassar became one of the most important figures of the century, designing a huge number of churches and other important structures in Malta. Valletta was among the first cities in the world that was laid out in a grid pattern, with long straight roads, and 90 degree angles between all roads crossing each other. Valletta was built with defence in mind. It is virtually impossible to conquer the city under normal circumstances. However, under normal circumstances, the Maltese would cooperate against a common enemy, instead of fighting each other as is the case now. Due to that, the fortifications aren't manned as well as they could be, weakening the value of the amazing defences. Just outside the City Gate is the Triton Fountain. Perhaps you should pay a visit to it.

The church of St. James is located here, and another church, dedicated to St. George is located just a short walk from It-Tokk. As if two churches isn't impressive enough, Victoria also has a cathedral, which is located just inside the Citadel.

If you weren't so busy searching for the Angelic Alliance, you'd stay and relax in Marsascala for a couple of weeks.

Also, the commander of the navy insisted that the Fort should be captured, to allow him to use Marsamxett Harbor (between Sliema and Valletta, although none of these cities existed in 1565). That was why the Turkish leader evetually decided that they might as well take out St. Elmo. The defenders were, however, incredibly persistent, and repelled attack after attack. The many failures cost the turks thousands of troops, including many elite troops, brought along just in case there should be any problems defeating the numerically vastly inferior forces of the Knights. Eventually the Fort had to fall, but this win cost the turks much, both in soldiers and in morale. Not to mention time, which was an important factor, as the knights and friends of the Order were gathering troops around Europe.

Nadur is the first of three hills on Gozo a traveller will notice when arriving from the east. The town is also referred to as City of the Rising Sun, and a rising sun also adorns Nadur's city emblem. The people of Nadur are known as Nadurin and many are employed as either farmers or seafarers. The citizens also produce large quanties of fruit, including apples, pears, plums, lemons, oranges, melons, and peaches. Nadur was never fortified, although two towers were built in the city. None of them were constructed as defensive structures. Kenuna Tower serves as a kind of signal box. The other tower is known as Ta Sopu. Nadur has a very lively festa - the Mnarja celebrations - which takes place on June 29th. B.t.w. when you've captured Nadur, you should try talking to the locals. Just ask for Peter and Paul and you'll get to talk to quite a few of the villagers. Around half of the male population carries one (or both) of these names. Perhaps this city is just a bit crazy about the two saints?

    • Сообщение: Gharb is a town in western/northwestern Gozo (Gharb actually means west). It is widely known for its beautiful church, the Church of the Visitation, which has an elegant curved facade along with twin bell-towers. The church was actually built on the ruins of an older church, and as is the case with many other churches in the Maltese islands, the cost of building the church was paid by the locals. This area has been inhabited for ages. Pre-historic pottery was found near Gharb, indicating that there were people living here as long ago as 3700 BC. Later, Phoenicians settled in the area. There is also evidence that Romans lived in the area in the 7th century AD. Apparently Christian monks constructed some chapels and monasteries in this region during that period.

    • Сообщение: Both in Malta and Gozo, there's several places where you can see the cart ruts, sets of deep tracks which originate from the distant past, possibly the Bronze Age. Nothing can be said with absolute certainty about the tracks, and therefore they are considered a bit of a mystery. However, several good and reasonable explanations have been put forward. Most likely, some sort of goods were transported in vast quantities (vast on a Bronze Age scale that is) by a special type of craft, called the travois. The transported goods must have been heavy since the tracks are rather deep (up to around 60 cm). Exactly what kind of goods had been worth the effort is open for discussion, although there has of course also been several guesses about this part of the mystery. Near the coast, you can see the tracks disappearing into the ocean in one place, then reappear in another place closeby (such as the other side of a bay), giving evidence that the terrain has changed in the long period since the cart ruts where created.

It is higher than the dome in Mosta (and than any other church of the same type in the world except St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome), although not as wide. That way, the citizens of Mosta and the citizens of Xewkija can keep on arguing about which of them has the church with the biggest dome until the Sun burns out... Xewkija is also one of the oldest towns in Gozo.

    • Сообщение: Mgarr is the primary harbour of Gozo. In fact, Mgarr means safe harbour. Approaching the city from the seaside, one can hardly avoid gasping at the amazing sight og Mgarr. The colourful boats in the water, behind them then buildings near the hardbour, then a group of buildings can be seen further back where the terrain rises, and on top of a large hill is the beautiful and impressive church Our Lady of Lourdes. Just south of the town lies Fort Chambray on top of another hill. It was built by Chambray, a knight of the order who got so sick and tired of the decadence shown by many other members, that he moved away from Valletta and to Gozo. He paid for the construction of the fort, and was in return awarded the honor of becoming governor of Gozo. This fort was the only one that tried any kind of resistance when the French invaded in 1798. The fort was later used as a hospital during WW1. Where Mgarr ends, Ghajnsielem starts. The two towns have more or less grown into eachother.

However, your intellect is still sufficiently superior that you manage to negotiate a better deal than the one the Head Minotaur had in mind (feeding you to the Hydras). By questioning the strength of Minotaurs, you convince him to throw you into a wall, and at the same time your own bodyguards finally come to your assistance.

The nobleman grew insane after seeing his loved ones dying, and some say he performed a strange ritual to create guards that would protect him from his former friendґs desire for revenge. The remaining guards had fled, so he summoned a number of guards that were infinitely loyal to him, but also connected to a lower plane of some sort. When the final of the 12 guards arrived, the nobleman had felt secure, but the following night he ran ut of luck. Sleepwalking, he ended up in the main hall where he made sufficient noise to wake up himself and attract attention of the guards. They didnґt recognize him in the darkness and slew what they thought was the ghost haunting their master. Since then they have been the only living creatures to inhabit the palace. When you move closer to the palace, they attack you without any sign of fear.

You can now see the armies on each side of the cavern, preparing for battle. On one side, Red Dragons are roaring in anger as the Phoenixes on the other side manage to conjure even more fire and lava to fight the darkness. This appears to be a reminder of the everlasting battle between good and evil. At times, evil seems to have won, yet even the darkest darkness cannot suppress goodness forever.

He was then put into the cage and subjected to all kinds of magical experiments. Likely, one of those experiments dispelled the charm, and he put down what had happened on a piece of paper. The squire is in too poor a condition for you to be able to resurrect him, but if you run into MegaDeath, he will probably want his shield back.

Perhaps they are the victims of magical experiments by the undead mage you can see behind them, wielding a weapon that you've never seen before. Whenever the behemoth try to fly above the rocks that stand between them and you, they are magically turned around and find themselves moving in the opposite direction, back into the center of their little prison. It obviously frustrates them, while you are just happy about not being forced to fight this dangerous creature. It's hardly less dangerous with wings, after all.

I've also tested one (possibly two) of his maps, and he has likewise helped me out with this project. Fnord is a kind and pleasant player, perhaps not the most skilled one, but definitely the one I'll always remember as my most memorable opponent when it comes to personality.

Wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but I was very amazed that he had been successful. The fact that he played it at such a hard difficulty also meant he faced an even greater challenge than my other testers, and that made his games slightly more different, resulting in some new perspectives on how this map worked at the highest difficulty ratings. Apparently, a magical shield belonging to his family has been stolen while it was in his possession. His squire simply took off with the shield while MegaDeath was sleeping. Since the squire was a loyal and trusted companion, he expects that the magical creatures known as Faerie Dragons have something to do with the disappearance of the shield and the scout. Several clues point to their involvement. As MegaDeath has been unable to sneak past the Faerie Dragon guardians near the lith, he asks you too bring the shield back to him if you can make it into the lair of the Faerie Dragons. MegaDeath promises to reward you if you manage to bring the shield back to him. He'd also like to see his squire again, if you can liberate him from the Faerie Dragons.

    • Сообщение: You step into a beautiful valley. On both sides of this road are lines of trees, although the edge of the cavern is visible just behind the first line of trees on one side. Ahead, there is a small open area near a lake. Several small towers guard the entrance to one passage, while anoter one leads in the opposite direction. There's no road leading in that direction, but a road leads ahead a bit further on. You can't see where it ends yet.
