ObjectiveObjective: Acquire the Warlock's Orb of Vulnerability. Notes: - Town Portal and Dimension door have been disabled in all but one town. No other spells have been disabled. - enemies Red and Orange are allied.

Story1The cruel and mighty empire of Diablis grew frail with age. Her coasts were ravaged by Barbarians and her authority was challenged by a dozen upstart kingdoms. Still she clung to power by corruption and terror when her military might failed.

Story2But as is often the case when empires decay, the heaviest blow came from within. For the alliance of Necromancers, Demoniacs and Warlocks, which had once forged the Empire, was at last sundered... (To be continued.)

Story3...The Demons and the undead turned upon the Warlocks, being fearful of their growing power, and drove them from Diablis. Then there was strife between these two factions, for each wished the new Emperor to be of their own kind. Bitter civil war followed, until the Empire's strength was spent.

Story4But Clucender, the dread Lord of the Warlocks, whose origins were unknown even to his own kind, had not lain idle in his exile. With his followers he had fled deep into the underworld, and there wrought a great stronghold of stone and iron...

Story5...A desire for revenge burned fiercely in Clucender's heart. He made terrible pacts with Demons and malign Gods, and thereby gained great power. And he fashioned for his ends an Orb of Vulnerability, which allowed the immortal to sicken and age, and the mindless to grow mad.

Story6And Diablis was smitten by a terrible Week of the Plague. The ageless Devils, in league with the Demoniacs, perished of a great weariness. Walking dead grew mad and turned upon their masters. Efreeti burned to death in the great fires that consumed the cities of Charn and Thiandrum...

Story7...Thus the destruction Clucender wrought with his Orb caused the Diablisians to perish in a manner most abominable to them. Of those few that survived the Week of the Plague, most fled the island and wandered aimlessly through the lesser realms, and of their fates little is told.

Story 8The petty vassal kingdoms have been quick to declare their defiance of the crippled Empire. Believing the island to contain the hoarded wealth of centuries of tribute, they are even now preparing an assault on her coasts...

Story9a...You are among the last Lords of Diablis, and you have vowed to make the rebels pay for their treachery in blood. Their corpses shall swell the ranks of your undead legions. Alas, even now the remaining Demoniacs will not forget their feud with your kind. You must subdue them also.

The last of the feeble-minded Necromancers have sought alliance with your faction! They forget that they too have insults to atone for.

Story10Clucender's vengeance seems now to be sated, and he no longer threatens Diablis. But if you succeed in rebuilding the empire you must descend into the underworld and wrest from him the Orb. Should you fail to do so, your minions will lose faith in you and the empire will crumble.

Prison ASome time ago you captured Fiona, a powerful Demoniac priestess, and placed her in a prison in the catacombs. You sought to use her as a hostage, but the Demons were uninterested. This insult has left her with no great love for her brethren, and if you freed her she would prove a willing ally.

Prison BSome time ago you captured Isra, a high-ranking general of the Necromancers, and imprisoned her in the caverns. She was a little stubborn at first, but the hospitality of your Pit Fiends has served to open her mind somewhat. If you chose to free her, she could prove a useful pawn.
