Start1Our tale is set in the land of Fanamor. Here you, King Lyo, ruled wisely and fairly, or so you hoped, for many years from the capitol, Galvaston. The system of ruling in Fanamor meant directly beneath you, and answerable only to you and each other, were five powerful knights, the Elemental Lords. The Elemental Lords represented the five constituents of the world, each put there by the respective god. These elements are: water, fire, air, earth and life. Each Lord was supposed to use these in ruling and fighting the enemies of the king, for evil lurked everywhere.

Start3However the greatest evil in the land came in the form of Nihar - He Who Rules Death. This was an all powerful Necromancer who in generations past crippled Fanamor with his evil armies and dark spells. However many centuries ago the king and his Elemental Lords had sealed up this sorcerer. After a battle in which the Elemental Lords had won a brief respite from the Necromancer's attacks, Nihar fled back to a dimensional portal that lead him to his lair. The portal's location had been concealed by Nihar's evil magic, but after his defeat the magic weakened and the portal was revealed. The Lords tracked him back to the portal and as he fled through they combined their magic to create a gate that would seal Nihar in his lair for ever. They named it the Gate of the Damned and promised never to open it again, or doom would reign down upon Fanamor.

Start6A few months ago you were having a terrible dream. In it a vile Necromancer was sucking out your soul. As you awoke with a start you heard shouting in the cortyard of Galvaston. You rose from your bed and moved to the window to investiagte. Suddenly behind you the door burst open. You rushed for your sword but the inturders were upon you. You recieved a sharp blow to the back of the head and fell, dazed. The last thing you heard was a whiney voice saying, Another for the Necromancer's army? before you were hit again and everything went black.

Start8You awoke in a prison cell, your head spinning, trying to piece together the events of..? Sadly you have no idea how long you were unconcious. What had the voice said about the Necromancer? Has Nihar returned? Has the Gate of the Damned been re-opened? By whom? A few hours later and a grate in the front of your cell creaked open, and you could see a Minotaur looking through. He then laughed and opened the door, grabbed your weak body and dragged you through corridors to a toruture chamber where he proceeded to try out his array of instruments. For a week this went on. You recieved only scraps of food and were made to work chipping rocks or tortured for no apparent reason. There were other prisoners there too, some of whom you recognised and most of whom recognised you as their king. You couldn't stand it.

Start11Then one day as the lone Minotaur guard took you into the courtyard to chip rocks you grabbed your pick and with all your might stabbed into his eye. Suddenly the rest of the prisoners, weak and feeble though they were, grabbed their picks and hacked away at the bellowing guard. You raided a weapons store and took what you could to arm your handful of men. You had to move quickly, everyday a number of Minotaurs came to check up, and these would be better prepared. So as the beasts came in through the front you slipped out the back.

Start13Now you must flee with your meager retinue and somehow reclaim your throne. Looking at your current situation this seems an almost impossible task, but somehow you must pull through! May the luck of the gods go with you.

HalafastYou remember each of the Elemental Lords. First was Halafast, the Lord of Water and your greatest friend, always cheerful, always willing and enthusiastic. He surely could not have betrayed you?

RortranRortran was the Elemental Lord of Air. He was an elusive character, mysterious, dissapearing for weeks on end to persure unknown goals. Perhaps he had something to hide? But you still can't believe it.

IngolThe Elemental Lord of Earth was Ingol. A strong fighter, always victorious on the battelfield, always stern and unflinching in the face of danger. But did his seemingly impossible strength come from some other force than the power of earth?

MarnMarn was indeed a fiery character, as befitted the Elemental Lord of Fire. He would laugh heartily one moment then fly into a fury the next. On the battlefield he revelled in the slaughter of his enemies. Was this blood rage turned to more evil ways?

StaldorFinally there is Staldor, the Elemental Lord of Life. Always gentle, bringing happiness wherever he went, bringing life and hope where it had seemed that there was no chance. The last person you'd suspect, but does this make him more likely to be the one?

Any?Running through the names of Halfast, Rortran, Ingol, Marn and Staldor in your mind brings no clues. Which one could it be, if not more than one? You will have to find out later.

Shar1One night at camp Shar turns to you. I never told you much about myself, did I? He says. It doesn't matter. You answer with a wave of your hand. You have secrets of you own. No. I want to tell you. He begins.

Shar2I grew up in the village of Oldam. My childhood was fairly good and I grew up to be strong and served in the Fanamor army for a year or two. I was on leave, and looking forwards to returning to my family when I heard news that the Dungeon Lords had resurfaced after years of silence. They had already subdued Ram and were on their way along the road to Mirmir. I raced home, to Oldam, hoping that some of the armies had not decided to raid my village. But as I drew nearer I saw smoke. By the time I got there half the villager was in ruins. Half of the villagers were alive. They told me that a force of Minotaurs had raided Oldam and took away villagers, including my family, as slaves. I was devestated and left immediately to wander the lands. I ended up in Ram, a town subdued by the Dungeon Lords. There I drunk away my sorrows and met others like me. Then, many years later, I met you. Shar cocludes with the hint of a tear in his eye. And I'm not looking back. I doubt my family is still alive but I want revenge on those Dungeon Lords.

Shar6You poke the fire in the resulting silence. Don't worry. Shar says, looking up. We all have secrets. I don't expect you to tell me anything about yourself. You wonder if he is trying to make you feel guilty, but he stands up and walks to his tent.
