Your realm is inhabited by three clans of undead.: The lich clan of the Nazareen (purple), the young vampire clan of the Deadites (red), and the elder vampire clan known as the Nostradom (computer). You must foil the Elder's plot for the new millenium as Darkness Descends.

    You are the Nazareen or what's left of them. The few liches that remain have retired into crypts to the North West of Tackadar, your island home. You have stayed active ever delving deeper into the black arts. During this research you came upon an ancient tome apparently from the time of Nostradom. From it you were able to decipher that during the war of the clans the Nostradom lost considerable power. The power that made them appear living no longer gave them protection against sunlight. The Nostradom had to retreat beneath the earth or face certain, permanent, death the next time the sun's rays graced their bodies. Hmmm... This deserves further research....

    You represent the leader of the Deadites, or what's left of them. Your clan was marred with infighting leaving what's left resting in the Valley of Death to the east of your castle. Your one goal is to position the Deadites as the ruling clan and to swell your armies with your deadly might. It is upon this day when a spy whispers something new and horrible to your rotting ear: Sire, the Nostradom move again....

    Your spy has told you that the Nostradom have been seen at night practicing arcane rites at the various volcanos that populate the islands. What could this mean?     As the still twitching goblin slips from your grasp you realize the first six you've just killed must be telling the truth as well. The Nostradom, or elders, have been living underground all these years apparently unable to face the sun's rays. The elders plan to weave ancient magics to cause the volcanos that populate the islands to erupt. The ensuing ash and smoke that is sent into the sky would block out the sun and allow them to walk the surface once more! Brilliant! You have no love for the sun but you have no desire to share your land with the Nostradom again. You look at the corpses at your feet. It may take several more to find out when this is to occur...

To your surprise she returns with this information: The Nostradom are busy securing all means of resources. It is believed that their sorcery will require a constant supply to maintain. You thank her for her information. She bows in response. In an instant you are drinking her blood. -after all you wouldn't want the troops to think you're getting soft...

    You've spent the past few days pondering the situation. You've come to the conclusion that this is a golden opportunity for you. You will set out to place all mines, sawmills, gem ponds, alchemist labs as well as any light houses under your control. Once you have them the elder's spell will weaken. At the same time, you can use the power you obtain from these resources to instill the light houses with such power as to replicate the sun's own rays and thereby destroying the Nostradom while they are vulnerable. Once they're destroyed you can plunge Mawanti back into darkness - a black abyss you alone control!!!!

  • Darkness Decends
    You anxiously await the strike of midnight... Click..click...click. Midnight arrives and...and nothing. You sigh in relief - but too soon. Suddenly the ground quakes beneath you. Flashes of crimson ignite the sky. You stumble to the window and wince as the sky glows death red and sickly orange. The moon is gone and the sun never arrives....

    It's been two weeks under the ashen skies. The blackness has begun to take it's toll on the plants. It's becoming increasingly more difficult to find lumber.

    The cool night feels good. The sun was never your friend. The plants wilt, but the sea is bloated with wood to use. You joke to yourself that less wood means less wooden stakes as well. Still you have sent spies to the far reaches of Mawanti to make sure your supplies are full. You peer out of your castle window observing the ashen sky as it spools around the wind like a demonic eddy. You think to yourself Spies are very interesting, they are hired to ask questions - no questions asked....

  • Vistani
    You've discovered a series of tunnels underground. These tunnels are broken up by choke points guarded by ancient servants sworn not to let anyone pass without knowing the password. You seem to remember seeing various keymasters on the islands. You also seem to remember an old nomad tribe of warriors, called the Vistani, who have charged themselves with the guarding of this knowledge.

  • Nazareen discovered
    M'lord Ceptis has retruned from his expedition. You wave him in and dismiss the guard. Ceptis has been employed as a spy for you longer than any other. Not that he's long in tooth (favorite saying for a vampire) but he seems to have a knack for surviving. Ceptis gets to one knee and speaks, Your majesty, I have returned with most disturbing news. While searching for wood supplies I have discovered magical activity in the nothern most reaches of Mawanti. Ceptis pauses as if to gauge your reaction before continuing. Armies of power liches are clearing the islands in search of mines to bring under their control. I fear, m'lord, it's the Nazareen clan. You clench your fist and Ceptis turns visably pale, quickly back peddlig for the door. Damn those liches!! What do the Nazareen care about the sun?? Your answer would soon come...

    An embassador from the Nazareen has made his way in the dark to seek audience with you. You study him from a distance. The way he shifts his weight and darts his eyes betrays his nerves. You bring extra guards, for despite their frail appearance, these book worms weild spells that bite. You ponder what he wishes to talk to you about. Surely he cannot be so bold as to demand surrender? Then it strikes you! Have the Nazareen joined with the Nostradom?!

    You send an embassador to the Deadites with a proposal: Join you against the Nostradom and you will pay the Deadite leader 1,000 in gold for every day of pledged service. You're embassador tells you that the Deadites started to give him some trouble but quickly changed their mind at the sight of the gold. Finally some good news!

    You take your seat at the head of the council, your guards thick on the walls. The Nazereen embassador steps up and begins to speak. Most wise leader of the Deadites I have a most generous proposal from the Nazereen clan. We know you are working with the Nostradom but we are willing to show you that your time is much better spent in an alliance with our clan. To this end we are prepared to sponser your new war effort against the Nostardom with 1,000 in gold each day until the Nostradom can be laid at our feet. The embassador stops. Then seeing your expression of disbelief, he opens a chest glittering with gold coins. You quickly surpress both a smile and a sigh of relief and assume the tone of command. We except your treaty but will not tollerate theft of our mines. Further more any treasure that falls to the Deadites form the Nostradom becomes my sole property. The embassador quickly agrees and you hastily escort him out. The liches may be book smart but they have a lot to learn about the word!

    The messenger from the Nazareen with your daily gold never arrives. This day you also receive news of a lost battle against the Nostradom. You motion to your servants, who depart, and return soon afterward dragging a struggling gnoll. Times are getting tough. Not too long ago, you wouldn't think of tasting the blood of such a lowly creature. The gnoll falls to the ground. It's sunken cheeks testament of your less than discrimating hunger. Even as your stomach protests the canine blood being fed to it, you motion for seconds. You have a feeling this is going to be a long night.

    You knew it was too good to last, so it came as no surprise when you were handed the parchment, demanding ransom for one of your heroes. Good vampires are hard to come by, so you make the payment, but you make sure the Nazareen know it's blood money. Nothing will get in your way from complete rulership of Mawanti! Not the Nostradom, and certainly not the foolish Nazareen. They will succumb to your might and their blood will fill your goblet with gore!

    The war of the Mawanti Isles has waged for months now. What plant life is left struggles to survive. With each passing day the Nostradom grow stronger. The heroes you've managed to kill, you end up seeing again sooner or later. Their ablity to bring back their dead has made their destruction by normal means impossible. Your only hope is that the spell you cast once you have ensorceled all the lighthouses will banish them from walking the earth again.

  • A break in the clouds...
    Your voyages have discovered a few, rare, magical oasisses in Mawanti. These areas of arcane concentration seem to repel the darkness, giving those who happen upon them their first glimpse of sunlight in months. More importantly, the darkness has not yet choked the life out of the plants growing there.

    • Биография: Mouslic wields the most destructive power of the Deadites. Ages ago Mouslic was attacked by a Nostradom vampire. His skill in magic was great but he was unable to kill what was already dead. and he was bitten. His family found him, and thinking he was dead, burried him. Days later Mouslic awoke to find himself in an earthern grave. He was able to weave spells that gave him nuturement from the soil. It took 2 years before he was able to free himself. When he did he was greeted by friends and family who screemed in terror and labeled him a monster, a sin against humanity. Cornered by villagers he was to be burned at the stake. Mouslic in a fit of desperation used his magic to hurl rocks upon his attackers. Ths sky opened up and fiery boulders rained down upon his village. He never returned, though there was nothing to return to. Mouslic reconned his time spent burried casting spells in the earth had, somehow, made him more attuned with it. Mouslic roamed from village to village staying only as long as he could hide his blood lust. Eventually he stumbled upon the Deadite clan eager for a home and a chance to extract revenge upon the Nostradoms.
