    Notes of the mapmakers: - Play Freya as your explorer and main hero. Although you can play other heroes, she will be the central person in the story. - Don't walk away to far with all your forces...you might need them closer to home... Doriando & Cattleman
  • Preamble
    BEGINNINGS As the hour strikes midnight, in the great hall of the Guild of Mages, the young acolytes begin their recital ... In the beginning there was Spirit, and the Spirit was one and the Spirit was all, and it contemplated ... Time did not pass, for there was no time, only contemplation ... And the spirit saw its purpose, to know itself and thus become whole ... And so the world was born ... The sonorous chant continues, telling the long tale of creation, of how Spirit created the material world as a contrast to itself, so that it might have something to compare itself against, and how that creation divided it. As the positive and the negative combine to produce nothing, so nothing can be divided into opposites, each to balance the other. And, so the planes of existence came into being: the planes of Earth and Air, of Fire and Water, of Life and Death. Where these planes touched and mixed the final plane was created - the plane of Neutrality, where the Mages reside to retain the balance. And spirit itself was divided, into the opposites of Creation and Destruction, and they struggle still ....

    Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold ..... And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born? -- W.B Yeats. With all the strange rumours which abounded with the approach of the new age - dark whispers of the final days, of Ragnarook, the Apocalypse and Armageddon - Freya cannot find it in her heart to be fearful or sad. The very first day of the new age, today, is to be her time of testing and, while she is nervous she is also confident. True, if she succeeds, she will be the youngest ever admitted to the Fifth Circle of the Guild of Mages, but she has been taught well and has studied hard. And did not the Master of the College let slip that she had the greatest natural talent he had ever seen? No, she will succeed ... Now the time approaches ... The air begins to shimmer and then, standing before her is the Master himself, come to set her task. But, what is this! He is not his normal jovial self. He looks sad and weary and, what is even more worrying, frightened! How could that be? What could a Master of the fifth circle possibly fear? But it is not her place to question a Master, and he says nothing of this. Child he says in his soft voice, Now is the time for you to be tested. There are those who feel that you are too young, but I have evey faith in you. He manages a smile. Besides, there is great need .... but we will not talk of that now. To gain entrance to the fifth circle you must complete the five quests set by the five seers in the Garden of Elders. You must complete each quest before you hear of the next. Go now to the garden and receive your instructions for the first quest. His figure fades ...

    The master appears to you in a dream, and you are startled at the worry which is etching its way into his features... Still, he manages to smile. You have done well my child, but and his smile fades there is more to be done. I must tell you of what has come to pass ... . he pauses for a while, looking into the distance. At the beginning of the last Age the struggle between the forces of life and the forces of destruction culminated in a vast battle which was won, if only barely, by those supporting the Guild of Mages. The old enemy was sealed in a mesh of spells so powerful that even his influence on the world was vastly reduced. And now the spells have failed ... They were created to last a thousand years! he sighs heavily but even a thousand years can pass .... Now he is free to work his evil again, and we have grown soft and weak. If anything, his expression becomes even sadder. He has turned the other Guilds against us ... Always, they envied the power of the Mages, and now he has promised each of them what they most desire. Already the Guild of the Lizards has declared open warfare. Their ambassador in Salaar has taken the city with his ceremonial guard, striking in the midst of the night, and slaughtering our people.... He looks at you sadly, so while you must complete your quests you also have other tasks to undertake ... Destroy this ambassador, and restore Salaar to the Guild. I fear we will need its resources ...... desperately.

Finally, I decided that I must leave the fellowship of the Knights to seek out answers among the wizards, who quickly saw my potential as Keeper of the 5th Circle. I had no fears when I left, for I was certain that my leadership would fall to Seoman, the bravest and most honorable of my collegues. Alas, I was wrong .... Seoman died mysteriously in a hunting accident before the grand tourney, and my place was taken by Mullich instead. A powerful fighter, but one who cares for nothing but pomp and splendour .... He has drained the land dry, constantly raising the taxes on the peasantry, and grinding them into the dirt when they object. This, then, is the task I set you ... to free my land from Mullich's oppression and take the Castle of Honour. Success means another key ...Leave room in your army, for the peasants will flock to your cause. A great disturbance in the Order of Planes caused a breach, thus you will not need a Portal to reach the Plane of Earth. Because this new entrance was unguarded I locked it with a powerful Glyph. Unfortunately I lost it somewhere. Part of your task is to find this Glyph. Quickly you dig through your pockets and show the knight the Glyph which the old man gave to you. You mean this Glyph? The knight's eyes widen in shock. How...where...? he stutters. The crazy old man in the cave gave it to me! Another gasp...Morreius...appeared to you? He ask very slowly, looking intently at you. Why! Yes! What's wrong with that? Well...er...nothing...just that he never showed his face to anyone for the last dozen of years. It means you must really be special! With that he bids you farewell and good luck on this next quest...

Hi! while dropping a Glyph of some sort in your stunned hands... When you look up, he is gone. Now who was he! You wonder. Your thoughts are brutally cut-off by a roar... The Hydras must be near!

He draws on the power of Death to control the vampires and draw them to him. Even at this distance I can feel its urgings - if I went closer he would control me as well ... Soon he will accumulate a powerful force to ravage the land. If you can bring the cowl to me then the force will dissipate. He looks at you again and sighs. So, you think, he has no faith in me. You resolve to show him your mettle..

Finally you manage to convince him of your credentials and he invites you in. Well, well, I never, what is the world coming to? Hmmm. Yes, yes the quest, ummm, well it has to do with dragons ... Dragons? You prompt him... Well, well he is obviously uncomfortable, and then finally, almost in a whisper, says well, to breed ... That’s why I need to find an Azure Dragon, they, ummmm, well, they are so beautiful they, well, ummm, stimulate the others ........ His voice trails off, and then yes, yes apparently they can be found on the plane of life, hmm, although for some reason it seems to have gotten terribly cold there ...
